New EuroGOOS members
Two new institutes were welcomed to the EuroGOOS community at the Annual meeting in Galway on 9 October. The newly formed Dutch institute Deltares and the Portuguese Instituto Hidrografico bring the total number of members to 35.
This was also the last meeting to be chaired by Peter Ryder, who has over the last 5 years dedicated a huge amount of effort to EuroGOOS work and in particular his work as chair of the Marine Core Services Implementation Group has been very much appreciated. The new EuroGOOS chair is Peter Ehlers, who has just retired from his job as President of BSH.
The importance of Ferrybox data
More than 60 marine experts from around the world attended the Ferrybox meeting that was held at the National Oceanographic Centre, Southampton, which was co-hosted by Chelsea Technologies Group.
Discussions have started with the hope of being able to incorporate real-time Ferrybox data into SEPRISE.
Plans are already underway to hold the next FerryBox meeting in Sweden in Spring 2010, hosted by SMHI and the EuroGOOS Office.
