About EuroGOOS
EuroGOOS is an Association of Agencies, founded in 1994, to further the goals of GOOS, and in particular the development of Operational Oceanography in the European Sea areas and adjacent oceans. EuroGOOS is established with full recognition of the importance of existing systems in research and operational oceanography in Europe at national and European scales. EuroGOOS now has 36 Members in 18 European countries.
The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), is designed and being implemented to embrace the oceans as a single entity, to provide a global view of the ocean system.
EuroGOOS work is coordinated by a permanently staffed office, currently located at SMHI in Sweden. The EuroGOOS Director Hans Dahlin works here, assisted by Siân Petersson. Decisions are approved at Annual meetings and there is also a Board that meets about 3 times a year, consisting of nominated member representatives and chaired by Peter Ehlers.
