The SEPRISE project

Back to EuroGOOS homepage

The overall objective of SEPRISE has been to discern and enable methods of increasing, improving and coordinating production of European scale operational ocean products and services.
The findings and experience gained from previous projects and existing products have been examined to see how they could be pulled through into sustained, efficient operational oceanographic services. Care has been taken to ensure that proposals are compatible with the wider implementation of GMES, in particular to ensure interoperability with similar initiatives outside the marine theme and with global systems.

An extensive Economic CBA Scoping Report has been put together to estimate the feasibility of conducting a rigorous cost-benefit analysis (CBA), of an operational oceanography observing and information system for Europe, within the context of GMES (see WP4).

European Capacity in Operational Oceanography - An on-line web demonstration has been developed, showing the feasibility of joint pan-European data exchange and forecasting in an operational mode, and currently includes 637 time series of sea level, waves, temperature, salinity, currents and winds. Approximately 80% of these time series have corresponding model results with which they can be compared directly (WP7).

Another report on Sustainable marine environmental information services to meet collective European needs identifies concrete actions for what is needed to build a sustainable, integrated operational system based on the GMES Marine Core Service (MCS), with integrated, coordinated upstream in situ and Earth Observation data provision and downstream services dedicated to meeting individual needs for services (WP5&6).
