Coastal to Global Operational Oceanography: Achievements and Challenges
175 enthusiastic oceanographers from 21 different countries met up in Exeter for the 5th EuroGOOS Conference. Keynote speakers included Jackie McGlade from the European Environment Agency speaking about working together to improve the usage of marine data and Paul Leinster from the Environment Agency (England and Wales) talking about the challenges of a changing environment.
A book of the Conference proceedings will be published, hopefully at the beginning of next year.
A big thank you to the conference sponsors IBM, IACMST, IMarEST and Met Office.
Instructions for Authors for Submission of Papers to the Proceedings of the 5th EuroGOOS Conference
Please submit your papers as soon as possible after the conference by emailing them to sian.petersson@smhi.se by 4 July 2008. The EuroGOOS Office will prepare the papers for reviewing and proof-reading and they will then be printed as a book by the European Commission. Due to the large number of papers to be included we have to limit the number of pages for each presentation:
Oral presentations: 6 pages
Posters: 4 pages
If possible, use the template EG2008.dot for preparing your paper, as that will give you the page size and font formats to use, as well as making sure that the necessary information has been included. The final version of the book will however be created using FrameMaker.

Figures and diagrams
It is preferable if all graphics are submitted as separate files in one of the following formats: PNG, GIF, TIFF, JPEG, PS, EPS, PDF. Files in MS Word, Excel or PowerPoint are also acceptable. Figures and diagrams must be suitable for printing in grey scale.

Remote Sensing of Shelf Sea Ecosystems
A new report has just been published by the Marine Board which includes contributions by Patrick Gorringe from the EuroGOOS Office. The report can be downloaded from the Marine Board Publications page.
